Habitat No 3: Areas of Communication, 1976

About
Habitat / Nuevo Ambiente — a multilingual (Spanish/English/French) design/architecture series published by Editorial Blume in Barcelona in the 1970s. The series comprises illustrated monographs and themed volumes on domestic environments and design topics (e.g., living room, bedroom, surfaces/communication) intended for designers, architects and an informed public.

The Habitat series aimed to examine the components and atmospheres of modern domestic life from a multidisciplinary point of view: design, architecture, photography and material culture. Volume 3 — Areas of Communication — focuses on the spatial and visual devices that enable communication within dwellings and public interiors: thresholds, halls, passages, living areas that connect functions, surface treatments, and the role of furniture/lighting/finishes as “media” of daily communication. The volume functions as both a design reference (plans/photography) and a visual essay on how interior elements mediate social interaction.
