42nd Street Studio (1980), self-published by Joyce Baronio, collects black-and-white portraits of sex workers she photographed in her Times Square studio. With a foreword by Baronio and introduction by Linda Nochlin, it won the American Institute of Graphic Arts Award for Excellence.

Joyce Baronio studied photography at Yale under Walker Evans before spending four years documenting performers in Times Square's sex shows. Her landmark book 42nd Street Studio brought international acclaim; one image later became the cover of The Oxford Companion to the Photograph in 2005.
